Cuts From The Corn : The Classic Scenes

Welcome to our third entry in our Cuts From The Corn : The Classic Scenes Series. Each week will feature a classic scene from the original 1984 movie and if you have any suggestions for a certain scene, feel free to email us at childrenofthecornmovie@yahoo.com for your "classic moment" ideas. Now, let's head over to Hansen's Cafe for some "Good Coffee..."

Good Coffee...
As Job and his father stopped by Hansen's Cafe on that fateful Sunday for a talk with the townsfolk and a strawberry shake, the town teenagers had other plans. While a menacing Isaac looked on, the cafe waitress poured a little something extra (and it wasn't caffeine) into the afternoon coffee pot that began the carnage that was to follow all over the town of Gatlin. Maybe they really should have passed on that second cup.....

Cornfield Visions : The Drawings of Sarah

"That's when Sarah started drawing these pictures...."

With those words, so began Sarah's gift of sight in Stephen King's Children of the Corn. As the drawings depicted things to come (and things that had happened) in the town of Gatlin, Isaac was able to predict the coming of the interlopers. Intended to represent the drawings of a child, in actuality they were beautifully drawn by illustrator Judeanne Winter. Below are many of her different works of art from the opening title scene.

Wanted - The "Children" from Gatlin

The Gatlin adults disappeared, but what happened to the children? Well, we have searched and as it turns out, they are very hard to track down - even in the cornfields of Gatlin! During filming in 1983, many local residents from Sioux City Iowa and the surrounding towns were cast as "extras" to round out the population of the fictional town of Gatlin Nebraska. With this year marking the 25th anniversary of the classic movie, we are trying to get in touch with as many people as possible that had a part or role in making this one of the most memorable films in cinematic horror.

If you, or anyone you know, were an extra in the original Children of the Corn, feel free to contact us at childrenofthecornmovie@yahoo.com or leave us a comment below. "ChildrenoftheCornMovie.com wants you too....."

Now The Corn Will Be Blu - In August.......

We just received word that the release date for the Children of the Corn 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray disc has been moved from it's original July 28th date to August 25th. Here is the original press release we posted a few weeks ago -

In 1984, a film adaptation of a chilling short story by horror master Stephen King terrified audiences and launched a film franchise that continues to this very day. Now, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of a classic and just in time to welcome the upcoming remake, Anchor Bay Entertainment announces the July 28th release of the original Children of the Corn on Blu-ray! Not only will fans see and hear this ‘80s shocker classic like never before, this Blu-ray edition contains all the supplements from the previous DiviMax™ DVD, as well as nearly an hour of newly-produced high-definition bonus features, with all-new, never-before-seen interviews with the cast and crew – created exclusively for this release! SRP is $29.97.

Produced by Donald P. Borchers (who is helming the 2009 remake) and directed by Fritz Kiersch, Children of the Corn stars ‘80s sensations Linda Hamilton (Terminator) and Peter Horton (“thirtysomething”) as a young couple who find themselves stranded in the isolated community of Gatlin, Nebraska. They soon discover that all of the town’s adults have been slaughtered by a twisted religious cult of children led by the enigmatic Isaac (John Franklin) who worship a mysterious cornfield deity. A deadly race for survival begins –can these adults escape a town where the innocent become zealots and offer blood sacrifices to He Who Walks Behind The Rows?

The Children of the Corn Blu-ray offers a bushel of bonus features including:

· Audio commentary with director Fritz Kiersch, producer Terrence Kirby and actors John Franklin & Courtney Gains
· NEW “It Was The Eighties!” (HD) -- Linda Hamilton talks about working on the film, offering great behind-the-scenes stories about the cast and crew
